I'm a descendant of Bryan Mullanphy. I had a good conversation with the owner about making a memorial there. Tried to save what stone work I could. But when I mentioned the men hauling pallets of bricks away Dr. Gendi told he can't do anything to secure the site and then stopped contacting me.

Wow. For what it's worth. the wrecking crew was on site less than 24 hours after the fire and they had already torn down half of it by the next day. From what I can see (without proof, mind you), the owner had no interest in preservation. He just wanted the real estate.

If you have any family history materials you would be willing to share with me (scans/photos), I would love to chat further. I would like to work up a piece on the Mullanphy family and Bryan in particular.

Out of curiosity, did you mean you were a descendant of his family? As far as I understand it, Bryan himself was unmarried and had no children.

I will have to find the family tree again...it's complicated.

So I'm a descendant of Bryan's sister Jane, who married a Chambers. Their kids eventually married my great great grandfather John L Boland. I'm more on the Boland side but always felt a connection. Used to visit the building and do school projects on Bryan. The Mullanphy family descendants are more out in Florissant. There's a historic home there. For some reason they didn't seem interested in saving the Emigrant building.

Thank you, I had been loosely following the buildings story and had not heard it had burned. Sorry to hear this.
