The book "Killing the Dream" by Gerald Posner delved into Rays life in and around STL. He comes across as a loser, liar, and small time hood, not to be trusted in anything he said.

The definitive book on the King Assassination is "Hellhound on His Trail" by Hampton Sides. There is little doubt that Jerry Ray helped big bro James escape from the State Pen in Jeff City in Dec. '67, directly proximate to the assassination.

There is SO MUCH HISTORY that I couldn't possibly fit into this article (and honestly, most of the Martin Luther King Jr/James Earl Ray stuff isn't relevant to the topic at hand anyway). I never really looked into the story before now and it's intrigued me enough to want to learn more.
