Our next event will take place on November 16th, 2023, from 7-9 pm (doors open at 6 pm) at Spine Bookstore and Cafe, located at 1976-82 Arsenal St., St. Louis, MO. It is free and open to the public.

Marc Blanc: 🎙️ James Eads How: The Rebel Heir Who Rewrote History
Join us as Marc Blanc, a Ph.D. candidate in English at Washington University, delves into the enigmatic life of James Eads How, the estranged heir to St. Louis' iconic Eads family fortune. James was a rebel with a cause, rejecting inherited wealth in favor of a nomadic life as a hobo. His remarkable story includes the founding of "Hobo Colleges," offering free education to migrant laborers, and the creation of the Hobo News, a unique literary window into a forgotten subculture. Discover the eccentric personality and deep principles of a man who defied convention and discover the fascinating legacy he left behind.
Gary Tetley: 🎙️ The architectural wonders Ellis Wainwright, Louis Sullivan & Charles Ramsey
Gary Tetley, an expert in architecture history and preservation, presents a thirty-year investigation into the architectural wonders of St. Louis. Dive into the story behind Chicago architect Louis Sullivan's work in St. Louis; his main client, Ellis Wainwright; and the St. Louis architect, Charles Ramsey, who brought them together. In particular, Gary will explore some of the mysteries surrounding the Sullivan-designed Wainwright building. This talk promises to unveil some of the hidden stories behind iconic St. Louis architecture.

Marc Blanc: Marc is a passionate researcher specializing in politically radical literature of the Midwest. His work has been featured in Belt Magazine, the New Territory, and African American Review, and he's a dedicated advocate for preserving untold stories of St. Louis history. Gary Tetley: Gary is an architect, photographer, and preservationist with a keen eye for the built environment. His book, Images from the Architecture of Theodore Carl Link was published by Landmarks Association of St. Louis.
